As they say “Tis the Season”....well, here at motorfanatics...Tis the season to be dreaming. Dreaming about fantasy shopping binges. Yesterday, Chris and I went for lunch..and after a quick bit to eat, we decided to do some window shopping. I quickly remembered the BRABUS showroom in Newport, and we headed over.

Who would a' thought it? I guess if something already kicks ass, it can be made more kick ass. Taking their cues from the Porsche philosophy of “refine and perfect”, the kids over at TECHART set out for the Trial of Strength at the High Speed event in Nardo, Italy, to set a record, and they did it. Now, I can speak from experience when I tell you that a Porsche Cayenne can move down the road, but 200mph? That's more than the legal speed limit faster than I've ever driven mine. An insane 690hp made it possible for the TECHART equipped Cayenne Turbo S to hit the mark. Rather than regurgitate the details of an event I did not attend, here is what they say happened.

This Audi is a bit more aggressive than its standard, and for some it will seem over done...myself, I'm not sure...the original design is breathtaking, and the Abt modifications are dramatic and I think my only area of uncertainty is the colors and their delivery...I guess this is one of the beauties of design, and the car world...we all have our own opinions, and thats all that matters. If you like it. Perfect. If you love it, even better.

As MotorFanatics, we are many things, we are enthusiasts, we are participants, and I believe the most important part, we are dreamers. We dream of roads, and cars, and that day in future where our dreams will be reality. Maybe we already have our dream car, and we are dreaming of later that day, or maybe the scheduled drive next weekend. Some of us dream of a 69 Camaro, or a 32 Ford, and cruising the old stip. Others dream of high priced exotics that many have never seen in person. What ever your dream, we all share the common bond that that is the automotive fantasy. While most of us will realize our dream, in some way or another, there are a few companies out there who have decided to make your automotive dreams, their business. Here are some dream cars that you don't have to buy.

If you've never been to Pebble Beach, put it at the top of your list. It is amazing. But more importantly, every year, the area hosts one of the largest gatherings of collector cars in the world. The hand full of shows, draw visitors and participants from all over the world, and this creates the opportunity to see in person, some of the most rare collector cars on the planet. Here are some photos of past events.

There are certain things in this world that are just the best. The ultimate in their world. True, the best is often subjective, and for me, it seems to change all the time. But one thing that continues to just be the best at what it is, is the Aston Martin. No, not the fastest, and not the prettiest, and frankly not the right car for the majority of drivers. But they are always the BEST cars. Confused? well I lost myself a little on that stream too...so here's the photos, take a look and you'll understand my spinning head.

When people talk of Southern California....especially when your not in Southern California, people are quick to list the negatives..expensive housing, traffic, car chases, earthquakes etc.... and those things are all present, but its not all negative. One of the biggest positives when your a motorfanatic, is the cars...cars that would be stuck in a garage in most areas of the country, roll the streets regularly around here. Once again on Saturday, I ran down to the “local weekly car show”....and honestly, you'll only see this in Southern CA.

So we have all seen the Fiesta photos getting on the ships, but they are on the ground here in California! Early this morning in Irvine, at the Ford building, I took my cousin down to Cars n' Coffee and right off the bat, we saw the Fiesta! YES! It looks great, and we are crossing our fingers, hoping to be joining the Fiesta Movement.

Ok, so here's the deal, Audi makes the R8....and I lose it..pure and simple..there has not been a vehicle that I have know that I was going to get my hands on, that excited me more. Audi took us up to Napa, then to Infineon, what else does a car fanatic need...honestly, if I made more than 15 an hour, well, a lot more than that, I would own this car. Screw 3,4,500k cars, I want an R8. Done.

The thing is, once in a while, genius just happens. In the automotive world, the Ford GT40 was a magical piece of machinery and since the 1960's, it is still to me, one of the most impressive vehicles ever made. Capable of withstanding, and winning long endurance races, and still having that perfect balance of appearance and performance. When I first heard that we would see a modern version of that car, I was scared..we all know what a sequel can do to a perfect piece of art. Well, Ford nailed it. The modern GT, even though is was only sold for a few years. It is perfect. Absolutely.

It all started with "The Cannonball Run", the classic Hal Needham movie, with an allstar cast that featured a Lambo Countach in the opening sequence. The car and brand instantly shot to legendary status in a world of dreamers... the Murcielago in these photos is 24 years younger than the Cannonball ride...and though it has evolved immensely, this one still has everything that made kids dream of lambos back in 1981.

My theory is that Porsche likes to play with the other auto manufacturers, especially the ones that make cars that compete for the same buyers. The other day, Chris and I saw a 959, Porsches supercar that made the scene about 15 years before the Carrera GT. After our discussion, we think it makes sense. Porsche doesn't make any money at all with these cars, but what the do create is credibility, and confidence...confidence that the second they want to bury the competition...they can. Its a pride thing, and we LOVE IT! back in 2004 they unleashed this beast to the world, and quickly lost roughly a dozen customers, because they couldn't handle this car. They thought it was just a raced up 911....they where wrong, and paid with their lives. With 612hp, and just over 3000lbs...The freakish Carrera GT.

This is the famous enzo that was used in the movie Redline, and the one that actor Eddie Griffin wrecked...this was obviously before the movie and the actor destroyed the car. The famous car, and the rest of its owners collection was all photographed by famed automotive photographer Rick Graves, and I had the pleasure of actually driving this car. I had never driven a Ferrari at that point...so needless to say when I was handed the keys...I lost it. Can't show you that, but here is the absolutely insane...Enzo.
